Somehow we’re up to the fourth (?) Hotel Transylvania movie? The series has been running since 2012, with three movies and a TV series, and now the monsters face a whole new problem: being human kind of sucks.

But before Dracula (Brian Hull) turns human, his son-in-law, Johnny (Andy Samberg) turns into a monster. A big green monster. A dragon? Hard to say for sure. But it’s pretty endearing how he looks like a child’s monster drawing come to life.

Johnny’s just trying to impress his father-in-law, but thanks to Van Helsing (Jim Gaffigan) and his transforming ray, everybody winds up something they’re not—which mostly, for a gaggle of monsters, means a bunch of humans, complete with mosquito bites, beards, and dad bods (and also jello). Naturally, putting everything back to rights involves a quest, and they’ve gotta be quick, lest everybody get stuck in their undesired forms.

The original Hotel Transylvania concept was created by writer Todd Durham, who wrote the story for the first film. The other major influence on the series is writer/director/producer Genndy Tartakovsky, who is probably best known for his small-screen work (Samurai JackPrimal). Tartakovsky directed the first two films and two shorts, but bowed out for movie three. For Transformania, he provided the story and is one of three screenwriters; Derek Drymon and Jennifer Kluska (Monster Pets: A Hotel Transylvania Short Film) direct.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is the last film in the series. It premieres on January 14th on Amazon Prime Video.
